An autonomous laser kirigami method with low-cost real-time vision-based surface deformation feedback system

We introduce an autonomous laser kirigami technique, a novel custom manufacturing machine system which functions somewhat similar to photocopier. This technique is capable of creating functional freeform shell structures using cutting and folding (kirigami) operations on sheet precursors. Conventional techniques are operated manually rely heavily precise calibrations. However, it unrealistic design plan out the process (open loop) realize arbitrary geometric features from wide variety materials. In our work, we develop demonstrate completely system, composed 4-axis robotic arm, real-time vision-based surface deformation monitoring associated control system. The based Lasersaur, 120-Watt CO2 open-source cutter. arm employed precisely adjust distance between workpiece lens so that focused defocused beam can be used cut fold respectively. four-axis provides flexibility for expanding limits possible shapes, compared conventional setups where fixed rigid holders. four low-cost cameras, integrated AI-assisted algorithm, sensors (detachable planar markers) mounted polymer-based precursors, allows forming with feature estimation error less than 5% delay time around 100 ms. developed manages power, scanning speed, motion designed plan, close-loop feedback provided by cyber-physical platform operate sequence processes in order create objects. Hence, complicated products various different polygonal realized undergoing sequential cuts bends (at any angles within tolerance) this platform.
